Classics as Graphic Novels

Classics as Graphic Novels by Campfire
Believe it or not, I found these at only P189.00 per copy!

I was never really fond of action or science fiction classics such as H.G. Wells' The Time Machine or Jules Verne's A Journey to the Center of the Earth, but when I chanced upon these beautiful graphic novels at National Bookstore by Campfire I decided to give them a shot.  I ended up coming back for more and buying the entire collection! At only P189.00 per copy, I was really amazed at this wonderful way of making the classics more accessible to everyone!

I looked up Campfire's website and their mission statement reads:
"To entertain and educate young minds by creating unique illustrated books to recount stories of human values, to arouse curiosity in the world around us, and to inspire by tales of great deeds of unforgettable people."

And I thought, wow, how true is that!  The collection sure did arouse my curiosity and inspire me!    Aside from the eight titles that I was able to buy at National, I found that Campfire has over 54 titles and still coming up with more, not just Classics but including Mythology and Biographies as well.

I wanted to share the ones I was able to purchase for your better appreciation.
Treasure Island Graphic Novel by Campfire
Treasure Island by R. L. Stevenson was one of the first titles that I bought

Treasure Island Graphic Novel by Campfire
Each title always starts with a little story about the author - nice!

And here's my favorite part about Campfire - they always line up the main characters before beginning the story!
You know how it is sometimes with classics - you can get lost among the many characters
So I found this a very welcome feature!

And here are the beautifully rendered drawings!  I got so immersed in the story I finished the book in one sitting!

Who said picture books are only for kids?

The Secret Garden, illustrated by Inga Moore

I was never particualrly fond of The Secret Garden and The Wind in the Willows but when I discovered these books published by Walker Illustrated Classics with drawings by Inga Moore I decided to try them out. Little did I know that I would fall in love with them as soon as I started reading them.

I soon learned that Inga Moore is a distinguished author and illustrator of children's books. As I read the books I found her illutrations to be so breathtaking I thought them to be works of art in themselves! The way she has captured The Secret Garden so magically and the world of The Wind in the Willows so charmingly has stirred in me a new-found love for these classics that would otherwise have been ordinary.

If you are into or looking to start up on the classics, this is a great way! The drawings are full color, full of beautiful detail, and are found literally in every page! You can see the painstaking effort that Ms. Moore has put in them. She captures nature beautifully, and the English countryside rather romantically. I couldn't put them down so I finished each book in one sitting, only to find myself hungry for more books with Moore's drawings. If you have never read these classics, read these illustrated by Inga Moore and you're bound to always remember them.  I bought mine from Fully Booked for only Php 599.00 each.

Here are some photos I took so you can see for yourself!  Enjoy!
